No. And that’s exactly why it's the only honest award in this industry. Every other list is pay-to-play, friend-to-friend, or straight-up self-nominated garbage. We found the one method that can't be bought: Google's public results. No panel. No votes. No "editorial selection." The algorithm doesn't owe anyone favors.

Why one city per country, not the whole country?

 

Because that's not how Google works. With Universal Search, local intent signals, and proximity-based ranking, there's no such thing as a "national" SERP. The same query returns different results in London and Manchester. So we fixed one variable: the largest, most competitive market in each country, where the most agencies fight for the same spot. We used usearchfrom.com to standardise the location (country + city) so anyone can verify the results.

How did you choose the keywords and cities for each country?

We used SEO data, SERP analysis, and local market signals to identify the most relevant high-intent term in each country, usually the local equivalent of "SEO agency" or "SEO company", and paired it with that country's most competitive city. In the UK, for instance, "agency" is the more natural term; in the US, "company" tends to dominate.

Our methodology relied on standard expert workflows and tools like Semrush and Ahrefs, alongside localised Google checks. In most markets, the dominant term and city become fairly obvious, especially as these SERPs still tend to make their core keyword patterns very (very) visible. For the city, we chose the market where competition is strongest, again based on the data. Is it a perfect method? No. It's ours, and like any methodology it has limits. But it remains far more objective than sponsored rankings or jury-based awards, because it's grounded in something you can actually go and check: real Google results, real search competition.

What about volatility? Rankings change all the time.

Of course they do. That’s why this ranking should be seen as a 'snapshot' of the SERPs at a specific moment in time. To ensure we didn't crown winners off a single lucky screenshot, all our captures were taken and rigorously cross-checked between January 2026 and April 2026. Rankings evolve, that's the very nature of SEO. So will these awards next year.

Do Google Ads count?

Come off it. No. Ads are what you buy when you can’t figure out how to rank. This is an SEO award, not PPC.

Why does the Local Pack count?

Because it is often the first organic visibility users actually see. Our data across 20 markets confirmed it: on these ultra-competitive agency queries, the Local Pack appears above traditional web links in almost every country. Ignoring it would mean ignoring where the actual visibility battle happens.

Why no Russia or China?

Different search engines. Different algorithms. Different rules. Yandex and Baidu don't play by Google's logic. This edition keeps the playing field identical for everyone.

What surprised you most when analysing Google rankings for “SEO agency + city” in 20 countries?

​

That a supposedly “dead” tactic still shows up in 2026: exact‑match domains and exact‑match/keyword‑heavy Google Business Profile names often appear disproportionately on these SERPs. Keyword relevance signals still matter, sometimes more than people want to admit.

Who’s behind World SEO Awards?

I'm Justin Chen, an SEO nerd (among a few other things). I got tired of watching mediocre agencies wave around "awards" that mean absolutely nothing, then use them to impress clients who assume they're dealing with real experts. People deserve better than smoke and mirrors.

So, along with a few friends scattered across the globe, I built the most objective method I could think of to answer one simple question: who is actually good at SEO?

​

For the record: we don't work for any of the agencies listed here, we haven't taken a single dime from any of them, and none of them even knew this award existed before we hit publish. Ask them. We let Google do the talking, not anyone's wallet.

One last thing: the images are AI. The ranking isn't. It's 100% real unglamorous human graft (we lost sleep over it). Just a glimpse of the swanky awards ceremony we could have staged if this were pay-to-play and corrupt (it isn't).
